Our Head teacher is Mrs Wasyliw. She has a degree in geography from Durham University together with over 20 years primary teaching experience. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets!

Mrs Kowal (Class 1)

Mrs Kowal came to us in 2008 to teach Class 4; having previously worked in Lancashire. Since 2010, she has been teaching Class 1 and welcoming the new Reception children to their time at St John’s. Mrs Kowal is responsible for R.E. and Collective Worship in school; developing our Christian ethos and education. In her spare time, she is a leader at a Guide unit, enjoys reading and loves to spend time with her young family.

Mrs Haigh (Class 2- KS1 manager)

Mrs Haigh joined the staff in 2013 after spending many happy years at Old Earth School in Elland, where she mainly taught key stage 1 classes. At St John’s she is responsible for the co-ordination of key stage 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage. She teachers Class 2 (year 1 and year 2). Her own subject interests are Science and Maths. She lives locally and is mum to two lively girls. Her interests centre around her family who are all keen cyclists and swimmers.

Mr Dewick (Class 3)

Mr Dewick has been at St John’s for eight years and teaches Class 3. He has taught year 4, year 5 and currently in year 3. He also enjoys teaching sport especially cricket and football. In his spare time he plays for a local football team – Ealandians FC.

Mrs Verry (Year 4)

Mrs Verry has joined the school in 2015 and teaches Year 4. Most of her training and subsequent work has been in KS2. She enjoys teaching all the primary subjects but especially maths and French. In her spare time she enjoys making the most of the surrounding countryside by going on bike rides and long walks with her three children.

Mr Jones (Class 4)

Mr Jones joined the staff at St John’s in 2015 and is enjoying the welcoming nature of the people of Yorkshire.  When not at school, Mr Jones enjoys spending time with his family: walking, playing and reading.

He teaches Class 4 and his favourite subject is Science. If you have any ideas regarding science at St John’s get in touch with him. He would love to hear from you.

Miss Bell (Class 5- KS2 manager/Assistant Headteacher)

Miss Bell joined St John’s in 2012 and became Assistant Headteacher in March 2016. She has taught year 3, year 4, year 5 and currently teaches class 5.  She is in charge of Key Stage 2 choir club, who are currently rehearsing for a variety of performances.  She loves to sing, dance and act – you may have seen her in the local pantomimes. Her favourite time of the year is putting on the key stage 2 school production!  When not at school, she loves to go out walking with her dog, attend gym classes and see her friends.
