Headteacher

Mrs Wasyliw is our Headteacher. She has a degree in Geography from Durham University together with over 20 years primary teaching experience. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs Kowal (Class 1)

Mrs Kowal came to us in 2008, having previously worked in Lancashire. She previously taught in Class 4 but moved to Class 1 in 2010; she has the responsibility of planning our new Science curriculum. In her spare time enjoys girl-guiding; she is undertaking the preparations for the Girl Guide’s centenary celebrations, including running a trip next year to Morocco for two weeks.

Mrs Haigh (Class 2- KS1 manager)

Mrs Haigh joined the staff in 2013 after spending many happy years at Old Earth School in Elland, where she mainly taught key stage 1 classes. At St John’s she is responsible for the co-ordination of key stage 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage. She teachers Class 2 (year 1 and year 2). Her own subject interests are Science and Maths. She lives locally and is mum to two lively girls. Her interests centre around her family who are all keen cyclists and swimmers.

Mr Dewick (Class 3)

Mr Dewick has been at St John’s for six years and teaches Class 3. He has taught year 4, year 5 and currently in year 3. His favourite subject is Maths. He also enjoys teaching sport especially cricket and football. In his spare time he plays for a local football team – Copley United FC.

Mrs Verry (Year 4)

Mrs Verry has joined the school in 2015 and teaches Year 4. Most of her training and subsequent work has been in KS2. She enjoys teaching all the primary subjects but especially maths and French. In her spare time she enjoys making the most of the surrounding countryside by going on bike rides and long walks with her three children.

Mr Jones (Class 4)

Mr Jones joined the staff at St John’s this year. When not at school, Mr Jones enjoys watching his son play football and his daughter practice her Irish dancing.

He teaches Class 4 and his favourite subject is Science. Whilst he lives just over the border in Lancashire, he is thrilled to have been appointed to teach in this Yorkshire village school.

Miss Bell (Class 5- KS2 manager/Assistant Headteacher)

Miss Bell joined St John’s in 2012 and became Assistant Headteacher in March 2016. She has taught year 3, year 4, year 5 and currently teaches class 5.  She is also in charge of Key Stage 2 choir club, who are rehearsing for a variety of performances.  She loves to sing, dance and act – you may have seen her in the local pantomimes. When not at school, she loves to go out walking with her dog and see her friends.
