Real PE at home – online learning resources

Real PE at home includes an online programme which supports families to be active, play and learn together. It includes a programme specifically for children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 with 12 themes, 6 areas, over 250 activities and challenges and 1000s of hours of fun and activity. This programme is also great for family play and fun.

It also includes a programme for children in Key Stage 2, with daily and weekly guidance provided for both programmes (starting from next week) in addition to an option to choose your own themes and activities.

There are so many benefits to being active, not only to our physical wellbeing but also to our emotional and mental health, especially in such testing times for all of us. We hope that the ideas help support you and your family to stay fit and healthy in the coming months. Here are the details to access real PE at home:

Week beginning 30th March would have been our last week of this term and quite often we have Easter themed activities and events to celebrate together including the popular Easter bonnet parade- make your bonnet, have a parade at home and tweet your photographs to the school twitter account. We would all love to see what you have made. Thinking about keeping connected, please feel free to print this Easter card and send to a family member as an act of kindness.

Mrs Kowal had hoped to record all the RWI phonic sounds for Reception, Year One and Year Two to practise at home as needed but the file size was too big for the website. Thankfully RWI have provided a home learning page on their website with pronunciation guides and details of Facebook live videos in the forthcoming weeks. More details of this can be found at RWI Phonics at Home

To make up for being unable to upload a video of the phonics, Mrs Kowal has uploaded a short rhyme of the week video to the Class One page of this website.

All  children can access Purple Mash from home and select their own activities using their login provided by school. Teachers may also set 2Do’s which is specific work matched to age groups.

Reception

In Reception we are developing our mathematical understanding of the composition of 10. We are comparing numbers within 10 to develop our number sense and finding the parts that make up the number bonds to 10.

Number bonds to 10 using pumpkin seeds

The numberblocks episodes are fantastic and the children really love the maths that they explore

Numberblocks Site

The episodes we are currently using: “The whole of me”, “Ten”, “Just add one”, “Ten green bottles” and “Counting sheep.”

The children are using manipulatives like counters to look at the patterns they can make with 10 and how to visualise the number in different ways.

Cinderella’s crown

They are also thinking about number stories within 10. Cinderella number story

To continue to build our counting fluency the children have a counting activity about castles in the construction area, you can recreate this at home with blocks or even cardboard boxes.

If or when school closes, everyone’s situation will be different – some children may be studying each day and others might be taking the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, dig a pond or bake something nice. Here is a variety of activities for your child to keep their minds on all they have learnt so far this year. Most importantly, you do what is right for you as a family and that you keep positive and busy. Do as little or as much as suits your circumstance. Everything here is optional. I have explained to the children today, there are a range of activities and not all will be suitable for everyone. If your child becomes stuck and finds they cannot complete something independently, just find a task they can do. All problems will be dealt with on return to school – it should definitely not be cause for anxiety.

  • For those children are in school the day that it closes there will be a pack of arithmetic revision given to them. I have included answers separately for you to check progress.
