Our class value is SUCCESS. Here is one version of what success looks like in Class 4:
Spring 2019
Science Week in Year 5
Year 5 have been looking at the science in our class book Kensuke’s Kingdom. We were investigating how we could extract pure water from dirty sea water. Look how clean one group got their water!
Maths
Today in maths, we created a poster to explain our findings when we investigated patterns when converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. We discovered that the numerators are always both odd, or both even, but never a mixture of odd and even.
Today, we have created a version of Stonehenge from different biscuits. Stonehenge is a beautiful monument built over 5,000 years ago. Stonehenge is in Wiltshire in the south of England.

This group have demonstrated how thousands of years can cause a monument to decay. Can you spot the heel stones?
Autumn 2018
This half term, our science topic is electricity. We have started to experiment with electrical circuits, discovering more about electricity and electrical components.
As part of our Remembrance day activities, we researched some local heroes. We worked in groups to discover how our own village was affected by The Great War.
Animals Including Humans
We enjoyed using our own teeth to investigate tooth types. We learnt how the diet of an animal is linked with how their teeth are shaped.
Our topic for the first half term was Romans. We learnt all about how they affected the whole of Europe, including our own country.
We particularly enjoyed creating our own Roman catapults. They worked really well.
English Summer Term 2018
British Values
With the latest royal wedding around the corner, we have been thinking about why the Royal Family attract so much interest in this country.
We talked about the role of the monarch over history and why we still have a queen.
Here are just two of the thoughtful questions that we came up with:
How would you answer these questions?
Religious Education
We were all excited to start our new R.E. topic today. We started by thinking of questions which would provoke people to think more deeply about common stories from the Bible.
Here are some of the questions which the children came up with today. Can you spot your own?
The Story of Creation
What was there before God?
Noah’s Flood
Why didn’t God make the sinful people like him?
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
Why do some people listen to God and others not?
David and Goliath
Would David have beaten Goliath without God’s help?
Daniel and the Lion’s Den
Why did God choose to help Daniel?
We hope that these questions make you think! Hopefully, we can try to answer some of them over the rest of the term.
We examined the Big Frieze artwork by Emma Yarlet and asked our own questions about its meaning.
Here are some of our sketches with our own questions about the relationship between God and His people:
In year 5 we are reading The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman.
