Science topic: Electricity
Children enjoyed making electrical circuits and finding out which materials are insulators or conductors.

This term Class 3 will be having PE on Monday and Thursday.

Year 3 children have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. The children worked with a partner using a geoboard on a IPAD. The children described a shape using its properties then their partner tried to draw the shape using their geoboard.
During our PE lessons this term we have been learning how to play cricket. The children have learnt how to field, bat and bowl. Look at class 3 in action…
Year 3 children really enjoyed their maths work this term. Take a look at the children using smarties to find fractions of a discrete set of objects.
Spring term 2018
This term Year 3 children will be going swimming. Please remember your swimming kits every Friday.

This term Class 3 visited Tesco. We looked at healthy foods and even made our own breakfast.

The children compared the sugar content in a range of cereals. How much sugar per 100g is in your favourite cereal?
Term 2 – Curriculum update 2015
SCIENCE: The Human Body
You will be looking at the functions of major organs and bones in the body, and learn their scientific names. You will learn about the structure of our teeth and how to keep them healthy. You will also learn about different types of drugs and their effects on the human body.
ICT: Control and Modelling / Internet and Emails
You will be designing and writing programmes that accomplish specific goals. This will include solving problems by simplifying them into smaller parts.You will be learning to send emails for different purposes and how to find things out using the internet.
HISTORY: Tudors
You will be learning about the important Tudor people and different aspects of Tudor life. You will find out about the lives of famous Tudors such as, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Sir Francis Drake. As part of our study, we will be having a Tudor day which will include a range of activities such as learning about Tudor artefacts, Tudor dancing and Tudor music.
HISTORY: Romans
You will be learning about the key events in Roman civilisation, including what objects which help us explain how Romans live. You will learn about where Romans came from and why they wanted to live in Britain. You will also be learning about life as a Roman, including their homes and what they did to relax.
FRENCH:
You will be revisiting numbers to 100, including writing and pronouncing each number correctly.You will also be learning about currency and acting out various role plays, which include the exchange of money.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Dance / Invasion Games /Swimming
You will perform more complex Tudor dance phrases and dances that communicate character and narrative. You will learn about a range of invasion games such as, hockey, netball, football and rugby.You will also have swimming lessons at Heathfield pool.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION: Healthy lifestyles
You will be learning how to lead a healthy lifestyle by considering diet, exercise, hygiene and the importance of sleep. We will also think about things that could be harmful to our health.
MUSIC :
You will be listening to and learning a range of songs from different time periods including the Tudors.You will also be learning about pulse, rhythm and pitch through singing and playing instruments.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Holy Words
You will find out about the different books that make up the Bible, and you will be studying some of them in more detail. We will consider how holy words are important to people of different religions. You will be using the Bible to locate various Bible references.
ART/ DESIGN TECHNOLOGY: Portraits, 3D models
You will be drawing portraits of famous Tudor people using a range of artistic materials.You will also create a clay model of a Tudor house which will be painted to add effect.
Term 1 – Curriculum update 2014
SCIENCE: Changing materials / light & sound
You will be investigating a range of materials and looking at how they change when they are heated or cooled. You will be learning to use scientific vocabulary to describe changes and understand the difference between reversible and irreversible. Later in the term you will be investigating light and sound: what makes light? How does sound travel?

ICT: Word processing/ Internet research/ e-safety
You will be learning more about using computers to edit and improve your work. You will practise researching topics on the internet safely in order to create informative word documents.
GEOGRAPHY: Rivers
You will be learning to locate the major rivers of the world on a map, as well as researching specific rivers in detail. You will learn to identify the different stages of the water cycle, understand where water comes from and identify how the river starts and how it changes as it journeys to the sea.

GEOGRAPHY: Improving the environment
You will be exploring how both the school and local environments can be improved. You will consider how we can improve recycling in school by producing new recycling initiatives.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Creation Stories
You will be learning to consider what the Bible says about how the world was created. We will be reading creation stories from different cultures and thinking about how we can help God look after our world.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Invasion games /Dance
You will learn about a range of invasion games such as, hockey, netball, football and rugby. You will try different ways of passing the ball and learn how to attack and defend.
In the run up to Christmas we will enjoy a range of folk dances.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION: Getting on and falling out/Keeping safe, including e-safety
You will be thinking about what makes a good friend and how you can solve problems peacefully. You will also think about keeping safe in a range of situations, including when using the internet.
MUSIC/ FRENCH:
As well as class music lessons, during Junior
activity afternoon, you will be having guitar lessons from Calderdale music service.
As well as French lessons in class; you will have another French lesson as part of junior activity afternoon. You will learn lots of French vocabulary such as numbers, days, months, greetings, weather and food.
ART: 3D work
You will research a variety of 3D sculptures and mobiles and discuss how a mobile is put together. You will discuss what items can be included in a mobile and then produce your own.
You will be thinking about what makes a good friend and how you can solve problems peacefully. You will also think about keeping safe in a range of situations, including when using the internet.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY: Clocks
You will be designing and making a battery operated clock. You will be using wood and card to build the clock and paint and coloured paper to decorate it.
