Summer term 2019
Class One enjoyed our school trip to Quarry Bank Mill and learnt a lot about mills in the past as part of our local area topic. It was interesting to see how the mill in Rishworth might have looked and what children would have done there. We also learnt about school lessons and living in the Apprentice House.

Spring term 2019
As part of our topic on “Britain and Queen Elizabeth II”, Class One and Two enjoyed a Kings and Queens theme day. The children worked in mixed age teams. We enjoyed a variety of activities including baking jam tarts, designing our own paper crowns and dancing with the Queen of Hearts.

Autumn term 2018
Recently in Class One, we have been making jam sandwiches as part of our D.T. topic. The children loved making their own jam to build their sandwiches and it was a real sticky treat.
Autumn term has seen us welcome the new Reception children into school. They are settling in nicely and enjoying their time together as a class.

Summer term 2018
The weather has certainly been tropical recently and Class One have spent a lot of time outdoors exploring and investigating. The warm days have also helped us to understand more about our “Rainforest” topic in Class One. We loved our trip to Tropical World in Leeds to find out more about the creatures and plants that live in the rainforest.

Curriculum Newsletter Summer 2018
Spring term 2018
We have been learning more this term about Space and Science. We loved exploring the planets and finding out more about Neil Armstrong’s mission to the Moon. The Reception children trained to be Astronauts in the outdoor area by completing the obstacle course under the decking. During Science week, we all became “Rosie Revere, Engineer” and found out more about how things fly. We tested a range of paper-copters and paper planes.

Summer Term 2017
Science
Look at our class pets! During the next few weeks we will be watching how our caterpillars change and grow. Then we will release them back into the wild once they are fully grown.
Spring Term 2017
English
In English we have been learning about Traditional Stories. We did a lot of reading, writing and story telling of Cinderella, and we visited Shibden Hall on our class trip where we helped Cinderella to get ready for the ball.
Geography
In geography we really enjoyed learning all about China and we have learnt lots of new and interesting facts.
We made and ate Chinese special fried rice.
We took part in China Day where we enjoyed lots of different activities, including Chinese dancing and making Chinese dragons.
World Book Day
We took part in World Book Day where the whole school dressed in their pyjamas! We read some books by the author Oliver Jeffers and took part in activities based on each story.
Autumn Term 2016
English
In English, we read the story of the Princess and the Pea. Year 1 retold the story in an independent piece of writing and Reception made invitations for the Princess’ wedding.
We also made pea soup using the peas grown in our school garden.

Science
In science we have been learning about our bodies and our senses.
We learnt about the parts of our body, and used our senses to join in with different activities.
- Using our touch to guess the fruit.
- Using our taste to guess the fruit.
- Using our hearing to identify the sound.
- Using our sight to identify the missing item.
We also learnt about taking care of our bodies and staying safe when crossing the road.
PE
Year 1 have been learning some new moves in Karate.
Reception class have settled in well and are enjoying playing in their new classroom.
